it’s okay

sculpture by sara nesson

I was sitting up on the hill near my house on a recent winter morning in a dense fog, taking in all the green and gray, thinking it’s okay to feel sad or lonely at this time of year, without even knowing why. It’s just a color, in the moment.

As I walked back to my car I saw the ravens I love, the pair of them, perched on the metal fence on the edge of a small field I pass by, making not a sound. I stayed with them for a few minutes, having a quiet conversation.

Sometimes we don’t even know it, but friends are congregating behind us.
